President meets UN Tourism Delegation
We were honoured to welcome the UN Tourism Delegation, led by His Excellency Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of UN Tourism, to State House this morning. Zambia is eager to leverage her rich natural endowments and diverse tourism assets by tapping into the global networks and systems of the UN Tourism.
To unlock our full tourism potential, we must continue to foster a policy environment that attracts international visitors, promotes sustainable development, and showcases Zambia as a premier destination in Africa.
We are, therefore, committed to learning from UN Tourism’s global experience and best practices as we work to position Zambia as a key player on the world tourism map.
Hakainde Hichilema,
President of the Republic of Zambia.

Ba Zambia, share your congratulations with them in the comments and we will make sure it reaches the team.

WE MET WITH A CHINESE DELEGATION-HH
This afternoon, we met with a Chinese delegation from LONGi Green Energy Technology Company, that wants to invest in our country’s energy sector. We are committed to solving the energy challenges that have been made worse by the drought we faced last year.
Without enough energy, our economy will struggle to grow. We have urged LONGi Green Energy Technology Company to speed up their investment here in Zambia. We have set big targets for ourselves of wanting to reach 10 gigawatts of energy capacity in the next five years, with at least 1 gigawatt by December 2025. To make this possible, our government is working hard on the policy changes needed in the energy sector to support these goals.
Your support and patience mean everything as we work toward a stronger, more prosperous Zambia.

TODAY WE VISITED UNZA AND CHALIMBANA UNIVERSITY-HH
Today, we visited construction sites for student hostels and infrastructure at UNZA Ridgeway Campus, Palabana University, Chalimbana University, and the University of Zambia Great East Road Campus. Some of these projects had stalled for a decade leaving students without adequate accommodation.
Despite resource constraints, we have prioritised student welfare by allocating funds to restart these abandoned projects. Our free education policy underscores the need to improve infrastructure, creating centers of excellence that can supply highly skilled professionals to our growing economy. We urged contractors to expedite work and complete ahead of schedule, ensuring students have decent accommodation and learning facilities.
However, our visits also revealed a concerning trend of land encroachments in public institutions, hindering expansion and disrupting the learning process. We have directed relevant government departments to recover this land. We remain committed to addressing these challenges and transforming our educational institutions into hubs of excellence.
